About Us
Garrigue Wines
is run by husband and wife team, Stephen and Margaret
Macaloney. This young couple used to be part of a corporate lifestyle, until
late 2002 when they left their jobs and Glasgow to tour and live in
Languedoc-Roussillon. Based in Montpellier in the deep south of France, they
toured, tasted and met dozens of winemakers throughout this fascinating wine
growing region.
Several months later, they returned to the UK with their sights set on building
their own wine importing business from scratch.
With no middlemen to deal with, the Macaloneys deal direct with the winegrowers
themselves, thus managing to keep the cost of the wines and the overheads down.
This means that they can bring to you some fabulous wines at terrific prices.
If you don’t know the wines of the Languedoc-Roussillon region, then now is the
time to try them. Hailed as one of the most innovative and exciting wine
producing regions in the world today, this region harbours the winemakers’ true
pioneer spirit of adventure. Sure, you probably won’t have heard of many of the
winemakers or even be familiar with the blends that they have created, but rest
assured, the Macaloneys have done their research, and if you haven’t heard of
them today, there is a good chance that you will have heard of them by
tomorrow. In fact, the Macaloneys take pride in the knowledge that many of the
winemakers that they deal with have never before exported to the UK. Not
because their wines don’t match the quality required here, but because the
winemakers only make small amounts of wine, so UK supermarkets or other wine
importers are not interested in their low volumes. However, Garrigue Wines has
taken advantage of this…….
If you want to sample some of the best examples of the region, but don’t know
where to start, why not contact the Macaloneys direct to discuss your likes and
dislikes and they will do their best to advise you on a suitable wine choice.
